How much does a wedding bouquet cost?

Wedding flowers are such an important part of the wedding experience. The price for a beautiful bridal bouquet will depend on several factors, but here is the simple formula:

Cost of flowers/materials + cost of labor + overhead= Wedding Bouquet Cost. Your florist will probably not break down the cost into these categories for you but they will be using this formula to calculate their costs.

Price range:

$50 and under: Minimum Design with a couple fresh stems or small silk flower bouquet

$50-$100 Petite Fresh Flower or medium silk bridesmaid bouquet

$100-$200 Standard fresh flower or premium silk bridal bouquet

$200-$300 Mid range fresh or high end silk wedding bouquets

$300+ Premium fresh wedding bouquets

5 different bouquet prices

You can save money by selecting smaller bouquets (less flower cost), simple styles (less labor cost), choosing a florist that works from their home (less overhead cost). Keep in mind that larger florists negotiate better flower prices from wholesalers and growers. Here is a further breakdown of wedding bouquet cost:

  1. Cost of flowers and materials: Silk flowers and dried flowers are cheaper than fresh flowers and their prices remain steady year round. Fresh flower pricing goes sky high during major flower holidays like Valentines Day, Mothers Day and the Rose Parade on January 1st. Fresh flower prices are also affected by time of year, weather patterns, distance they must travel to reach you. For example a wholesale bundle of fresh tulips is readily available in the spring (natural blooming season), but in the summer or fall that same bundle would need to be flown in from another country and the price would jump to double or triple or more per bundle. Quality silk tulip bundle would remain the same year round.
  2. Cost of labor: This is not just an hourly rate but more likely a percentage markup. Professional floral designers have spent years perfecting their craft. They spend countless hours learning all the skills and tricks for designing wedding bouquets that look beautiful and perfect for your special day. These pro designers get top dollar for their design service that is years in the making. Keep in mind that the labor for designing a bouquet includes consulting with client, sourcing/ordering the flowers, processing flowers upon arrival, designing the bouquet and then often delivering the bouquet to the wedding. Complex wedding design labor charge can be 30-50% markup of the flower cost.
  3. Overhead cost: Every business has base costs for rent, utilities, insurance, marketing, equiptment, taxes, etc. This cost must be calculated into every arrangement. Most florists add this as a percentage markup to each design.

Pricing for a full wedding floral package (bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces) using fresh flowers will be in the thousands. Faux flower packages are less expensive typically in the hundreds.
